tumbling

still not back to blogging every day yet, but I've started a couple new blogs to dedicated topics.

germany blog.
I'm leaving on 14.07.

for USP, economics, international news, environmental news and such.
smart stuff.

I get home at around 10:30 from work. then I might shower. and then I go online or just crash.
Far from getting done (or even started) any items on my list of things to do during the summer.

Well since I'm on blogger right now, the next post will be a bit of obscenely good music.

some updates:
my birthday was on the 23rd. 20 Jahre alt.
if only I was a year older, I could have gone to EDC VIP...
I got my mom to go a couple yoga classes.
I want to start a CD collection.
I got new glasses.
I looked through some ppl's EDC pictures, and noticed that Steven also got new glasses.
Our frames are similar.
I have to remember to try to not wear my glasses to school in the future. and if I do to not bump into Steven, especially in the presence of J. Gray. or else he will condemn me as a hipster, yet again.
I just ordered a new (refurbished) iPod. My 2nd classic. Yes I do need a new one because I am not willing to delete anything on my current full one. And yes I really do need to catch up on new trance and indie rock and listening to all those albums I've recently downloaded.

alright I have work tmr, too. and it's nearing halb vier.
gute nacht and see you on this blog later.

follow my tumblrs!
when my schedule reverts back to something with more free time, I will come back to update this blog and hopefully get to 365 posts this year.

maanantai 21. kesäkuuta 2010

alright it's pretty official

I broke my blogging-everyday streak.
darn finals and full-time job.

I might decide to go on a blogging spree one day this week and backdate about 2 weeks of posts.
or not..

I just really wanted to see the number "365" next to "2010" on my blog archive on the right side nav at the end of the year.

I mean, I was kinda close last year.. I got to 252. . . .

coachella 2010 day one!

epic weekend BEGINS.

DMAU5!!! I would see that guy a multiple times! J.Zimmerman is such a cool dude. My friend wants to see Pretty Lights. I caught As Tall As Lions at the Loft Monday night. Good show though I hadn't listened to any of their music until I checked out their myspace 30 mins before heading over to campus. I've listened through Yeasayer's album once, couldn't decide if I like it and so left it in the limbo that is my desktop along with all the other music files I haven't put into proper folders yet due to undefined status. La Roux. Wolfgang Gartner. She & Him I don't care for. Fuck all the bloggers and hype. I just don't like Zooey Deschenel's character in 500 Days of Summer and she seems to keep that sort of air in her music/music videos. Fuck all the hype about Passion Pit too. I listened to one of their albums and was annoyed. Fuck that. I like one remix of that song that's a single, the one with the high-pitched kids. The remix of it. Fuck cutesy high-pitched voices. Aeroplane I would like to check out, solely because of the Aeroplane remix of Au Revoir Simone's "Another Likely Story". Yeah, I don't keep up with the music blog world much – whatever, that's the only Aeroplane song/remix I have. My over 21 friends went to Voyeur in downtown SD Wednesday night to see Proxy. So Proxy must be good. Will go check out. I know I have a couple proxy songs in my electro playlist/remixes somewhere in my now almost full/not-even-enough-room-for-another-320kbps-trance-song iPod. Hockey I heard is good. Heard their song on Live105's soundcheck but don't remember how it goes or if I really liked it. Probably was decent to decently-good. Imogen Heap maybe. Could be a surprise made-my-night kinda show. Don't wanna see Benassi. Erol Alkan another electro DJ I haven't looked into but know that all my electro friends know so I might check him out. Ra Ra Riot I've seen twice. The Cribs maybe. Grizzly Bear wtf. I listened to all their albums but none of it has hooked me, save for Two Weeks, but only because it's a single and I've heard it on the radio before. Echo & the Bunnyman wtf old. h(who)tf is Fever Ray? and the whitest boy alive? Jay-Z I would check out because he's a straight-up g rapper, but the same time as DMAU5? no way. JZ>Jay-Z. in my pov, of course. Yeah, htf are all these other acts? Fuck me for being too indie to the point that I don't keep up with the indie music news I'm not gonna look up these people now. It's 4am Thursday but I'm going to post this for Friday because I like to do the one-post-a-day thing, I still have one more chapter to read for so I can sort of study for SIO1:the Planets midterm on Monday right after Coachella. 20 pages to read about Comets. Should be more interesting than the previous chapter about asteroids wtf rocks. Then I can finally get to the homework that's due on Friday but I'm going to turn in on Thursday since I won't be in class on Fri. Then after that I'll need to look through the old exams, and then look through the General Plan for an Alameda County city so I can start my analysis of it due on Tuesday next week for my USP170:sustainable planning class. Ahhomg. 4am rant/blogposting done.

spring break, i knew i probably forgot to pack something, probably something not so important that i could live without, but no—i forgot my laptop charger in san diego. yippee. apple store: $80 for a charger. WTF no. so I ordered one off amazon for half the price. It's supposed to arrive today but I haven't received it yet. I've got important things to do on my computer..!!

yeah so for those who follow my blog, maybe you can tell i just backdate my entries when I can't make them on time. and usually photos when I can't spend too much time looking for info on mixes and music to make download posts.

so later! I'm gonna go ride my bike and try to finish a book that i've started during winter break, until my laptop charger comes and I can facebook-photo stalk for longer periods of time. :)

Not sure if I want to continue blogging every day. It was cool for a while, to have all 30/31 entries in a month, but now I'm kinda tired of blogging every day. I'm too lazy to post full albums, photo-blogging is so much easier, ahah.
Should I continue blogging every day? Who even reads all my posts? I probably should stop doing this every day. Lots of reading to do this quarter. I dunno.

$2 million in mill valley

36 glen drive, mill valley, ca. $2.195 million

I really like places with lots of windows for natural sunlight.

Had only one class today, USP2: The Urban World System. (I added an urban studies and planning–USP minor.) Had to buy 4 textbooks for that class + a reader ($94). Total I spent at the campus bookstore today was $261.11 for those 4 USP books + The Politics of New Germany (for Poli120B) + International Political Economy (for Intl102). Yes, I like how all my classes relate to each other. Still need a macroecon textbook. I'll ask the professor tomorrow if there's a significant difference between the UCSD custom edition and the regular 4th edition. If not, $14 on amazon vs. $50 at bookstore. Whee-o~ textbook shopping!

Classes start again tomorrow. Winter break wasn't too great. I got back to La Jolla yesterday evening. Tidied up my room a bit, added some more wall decor with clippings from a UO catalog of last year's.
Today I went running at noon. Not a good time to go running. Will not do that again. I was used to the Bay Area's cold weather and thought that noon would be a good time to go running–but not so here. San Diego is 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) higher than the Bay Area. I'm trying to get back to running, and hopefully this quarter I will not stop when week 5 (or whenever midterms are scheduled) hits.
Saw Avatar in 3D. Was pretty good, I guess. (I'm one of those many who went to go see it just to see what all the fuss was about.) Now more 3D movies are going to come out. Not sure how I feel about that, being an indie film/art house fan. Maybe I'll just continue to drop by the megaplexes as infrequently as I already do.

oregon winter

photos by samantha w. and alexa f, 2009.

Got back home today. Flight delayed for 20 minutes, but didn't start boarding until after that time, so I actually ended up arriving in OAK an hour later than originally planned. Tired. Didn't do all that much today either. A friend took me out to brunch, we hung out and then he dropped me off at the airport. I got boarding position A35 (yay!) and went to sleep with trance around the world on immediately after I seated myself next to a window.

Going to go yum cha with grandparents tomorrow, then going to church/visit church friends (1pm service FTW!), and visit a Berkeley/Cal friend. Then when I get back home maybe I'll finally organize my desktop and music and deal with transferring everything onto my new 1TB external hard drive, and after that maybe even restore my whole old Compaq Windows laptop or something. Then I should be on my way to reading a book and watching movies and chillin'.
And posting links to musikz.

Energy Econ final today was alright. I just wasn't sure how to do one of the 2 calculation problems. German final tomorrow, German conversation and Int'l101 final on Thursday, then Scandinavian Politics right after Environmental Economics final on Friday. Then wooot, Launataina! Seeing a special friend for a bit and then flying back home. Winter break! Yeeeah.

Yesterday I went "Black Friday" shopping. As aforementioned, I really don't need any more clothes. But alas, found a few things I liked. Grey jeanpants from Ruehl. Yeah I "hate" Abercrombie & Co., but Ruehl is still less known, and the quality's a lot better, and when shit's on sale it's the same price as crappier quality junior high level Hollister. Orig. $78, scored for $20. Way overpriced, seriously. Shit's made in sweatshops in Sri Lanka, China, India, Cambodia, Indonesia. Oh, but what?! they're actually going to close Ruehl, due to "current economic conditions". :/
I also got a couple light pullover sweaters from UO. Light enough to wear in San Diego. Checked out some leather jackets at Nordstrom, but none of style that I really liked, though now instead of thinking about leather jackets exclusively in black, BROWN. I would settle for a nice brown leather jacket. My mom got a pair of New Balances on sale. Haha she's wearing young people shoes. Stylish.

Duuuude the black oxford heels from Oak are on sale! Orig. $224, now 20%– $180. Aaah still pricey but still want! But pricey trumps want. :[ ...except I do have money from working.. :/ Hmm..

curvature;; Thanksgiving

East Bay folks should know where this is. flickr: slinkydragon

Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving!
My starving student diet is totally off this holiday weekend. My digestive system hasn't had to work this hard in so long. My metabolism's gonna get screwed up again. In San Diego I've not been eating much. On Monday or Tuesday my stomach was hurting because I barely ate. But I never feel really hungry anymore since I've been getting used to not eating so much. I have PB&J for breakfast every morning. Then on Mon or Tues I had a croissant like 5 or 6 hours later. When I got home a few more hours later I finally ate some more bread and yogurt and chocolate and my stomach didn't hurt anymore. Haha.

Feeling pretty good right now, the calm before the storm, the storm of finals week. Ahh. I've got to get downloading on all the music I used to have. Going shopping tomorrow in SF with Mom. I really don't need any more clothes, but just accompanying Mom, and I might find some good deals on stuff I'll like. But all I really need is an external hard drive. To back up my computer so I'll never lose music ever again.

BTW bike deal went down. I now own a vintage road bike. Hipster cred +50 points!
Pics sometime in the future.
+ my Korean gamer mouse ("Razer Salmosa") that I ordered from woot.com came in.
It's blitzy fast. Even setting my mouse tracking speed to a pretty low level, it's still hella fast. BAM. And I don't even play computer games.

Good quality shit makes me happy. :]

unfinished published Nabokov

A Glorious Mess

Nabokov never wanted us to read his unfinished last novel. Unless, thrillingly, he did.
By Sam Anderson, nymag

I signed up for classes last week. 4 classes. Thinking of taking 5. There's this Russian Literature class I want to take that will give me credit for the 'regional' section of my International Studies major. The focus is on a single author: Nabokov. I really want to take it, even though it'll be a lot of work. (Evaluations: Study time/week: 6.72 hrs.) Actually I wouldn't do too well in lit classes. I only want to take it so I can read the books and discuss a bit. The writing papers part..will prove dreadful. I just really enjoy reading books. I would have liked to take AP Lit senior year in high school just to read the books, but not do any assignments or take the exam. I borrowed One Hundred Years of Solitude and Notes From the Underground from a friend who took AP Lit. Still haven't gotten around to finishing them. Hmm..I don't want to overstress myself next quarter with 5 real classes (right now I'm also taking 5 but in my mind's calculation, German doesn't really count). I'd have lots of reading to do. Hmm..aaaah..dunno.

I'm planning to study abroad next fall, 2010 in Germany. Went to a small info session today. Learned that their school year/semester system would make me miss 2 quarters. German fall semester: Oct to Feb. That means I'd miss 4 classes (quarter system). Erm..

But if I decide not to add Russian Lit: Nabokov later, I hope they'll still offer it in the future, with the focus on the same great author.

edit/add: I feel disillusioned. About a lot of things. Everything.
Maybe the feeling will pass. ie. "disillusioned youth".

snow leopard

On Friday I went to the Apple Store in the nearby mall and purchased a copy of Snow Leopard, thinking that I should finally upgrade, not much hw this weekend, more chill, I should get shit done. I install. Estimated time 45 mins. I go shower. I come back. Installation failed at around 30%. WTF. Restart and continue? Ok. No, still doesn't work. Disk can not be changed. . . . ? Whatever, I don't want to continue installation right now, or restart. Shut down please.

Later I turn laptop on, loading screen with the apple on it. Then it just turns off. WTF. I try again a few more times. Each time same result. Err.. I call technical support. They are closed, pacific time. This morning, I call, get some help, there is some error with the node. Not supposed to happen. NONE of this is supposed to happen, Apple! Made appt to get help at the Apple Store.

None of my shit is backed-up. I don't have an external hard drive. How much space have I used up in my macbook? 120+gb. Yes. MUSIC, a few movies, mostly music. Lots of music. I is a DJ. No external hard drive. Called up a friend who has one, but he wasn't home so couldn't bring it to me. 20gb free hard disk space in my iPod. Ok. So managed to salvage some files. Yay. That means I can do my hw reading tonight, good job. And save my pictures that I've deleted from my camera, very good. But now I've realised that I took a bunch of music that I could have easily redownloaded, instead of taking more harder-to-find trance and drum'n'bass songs. Ahhh..oh wells. All musixx is on t3h interwebz..so not totally lost. Just..what's lost is the result of all those hours I've spent hunting down songs and download.. Hmm I should have made one super-comprehensive blog post where I copy and paste down links to every single download I take. Aaah that would have been a good idea. Or getting an external hard drive, yeah I know. I knew I should get one, but was in no rush, and I'm no real techie, don't know which brand etc. is best to get, I can research more and consult friends regarding hard drives later during winter break.. Blah.. whatever. Not that big of deal I guess, if I had lost my photos, das wird überslimm sein. Hmm..maybe I am becoming more of the hipster type? Not caring much about shit, because shit happens, deal with it. I dunno. Whatever. My lawyer friend officially calls me a hipster now. I might buy a road bike tomorrow. If bike deal is made, yes, my hipster status goes up. I just spent 3hrs redownloading apps. Actually, not even done redownloading apps. Torrents were going so well, now it's almost at a standstill. Errh...

Alright I'm out, gotta tweak more preferences and recustomize everything to fit me.
Life is not over. If iPod died, maybe. Cuz some shit on my iPod I don't have on the computer. And twice has my iPod had to restore already, a third time.. plus this whole laptop hard drive wiped clean shit... now that would be too much.

Yay Blalock's Indie Rock Playlist finished downloading. Now I can take a break from trance internet radio (can't deal with organizing the small amount of music files I have left right now from copying from my iPod's hard disk).

rufen sie mich, bitte

found picture on a tumblr somwhere

Crappy weekend. Was going to post a sad photo but then I didn't want to spread any more feelings of sadness.

W00t woot for personal updates auf deutsch!

aah f—, I haven't written such a long paper in so long, and I'm still researching info. Meh.

I'm so nostalgic for good times. Looking through old e-mails and listening to shared music. über traurig. :'[

I don't know how I've never been there before. x[

Today I unintentionally ran 6 miles, instead of my usual 4. Ughh these big curving La Jolla/UTC streets are so disorienting. I should consult a map next time before deciding to try a new route. Also, my chances of getting hit by a car are increasing. I just need to get over my fear of getting hit by a car and not hesitate running across the crosswalk right when the light turns green.

I'm pretty tired right now, should go to bed, but I've gotten into the habit of blogging every day.

new DVC website

is up and running!

I've been appointed the new webmaster. But really I just do web design/layout—make everything look pretty. The previous webmaster, Jeff Koch, is a web developer so he did all the coding, php stuff. There's also a co-webmaster, Abhinay. He's going to help upload pics and update the site. I'm currently still working on the artists page –not every one has sent me their bios yet.

So check out the site! We have an event coming up real soon on Saturday, October 24th on the UCSD campus. Free for all with a student ID or valid 18+ ID. Line-up is posted on the site.

Michelle Ye and Han Yuqin;; Hawaii vacation

Chinese-born actresses Michelle Ye, right, and Han Yuqin of the film 'Yi Ngoy' (Accident) pose at the 66th Venice Film Festival on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009.

Arrived in Honolulu on Wednesday. Staying at a hotel in Waikiki with free wi-fi. Attempted to tan. Thursday went to downtown and Chinatown, then bought some fruit at the Farmers' Market in the very nearby International Marketplace and attended a free hula show on the beach. Today joined a tour, went to the USS Arizona Memorial, Dole Plantation shop, the North Shore of Oahu, and a few beaches along the coast including Hanauma Bay. Tomorrow hiking Monoa Falls, then next day hiking Diamond Head. Pics sometime later, actually low chance of that. I always end up blogging cool stuff I find than about my vacation since I get too lazy to do that after I upload pics on fbook.

Music posts up next! =D not lying.

pano;; wallet

Work was dismal today. No one wants sushi on a (relatively) cold Monday? Monday nights are usually good. Mehh.
Reading Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami. Checked out Jack Kerouac's On The Road from the BPL today.
80spurple warehouse 30-70% off sale started today. Ughh I hate it when I buy stuff that was on sale, but then later check back to see it's marked further down. x[ Oh wells.
Adding to my 80spurple purchases: a Nixon black leather bifold wallet.
I've been wanting a guystyle wallet for a while.

Packing for home after summer session, I forgot to put my bottle of clear nail polish in my suitcase, so I put it haphazardly in my backpack, in the section where I put lots of junk including my scientific calculator that I've mostly used just to calculate my test scores (ex. 38 / 45 = ...?) and my deck of death cards and my wallet.
In the plane getting up to leave the aircraft, waiting in cue, I opened up that section of my backpack to retrieve my cell phone, and yes.. the absolutely noticeably smell of nail polish. Great. and it had gotten on my black Volcom girl fake leather large checkbook style wallet. I've only had that wallet for a year. Of course it's still usable, but because it's got all these sections, I put hecka crap in there including 4 slides of my art from AP studio art last last year and concert tickets and receipts and cards I don't use.

Glad I'm finally getting a guystyle wallet. Won't fit in my jeans' back pocket, but.. yay! Wallets are definitely another item I strongly prefer guystyle than girls.

Also got new clear nail polish.

On another note, I just checked the cell phone bill for the month.
My mom used 771 minutes.
My minutes usage: 170.
