Deadmau5 @HouseofBlues

Deadmau5 at House of Blues in Downtown San Diego last night (Sunday) was so good! Wayy better than at etd.pop in May and also better than at the sfLovefest Afterparty 4 weeks ago (actually I don't think I was even there for his whole set at lovefest; think I went to the other room).

The House of Blues is such a nice venue! I would so go there again! (And they were selling tickets for the Bravery [tmr/Monday night, but I have a midterm on Tues.] and Julian Plenti only $10! But the Julian Plenti show is 21+. =[ )
The lighting system there is amazing, for this mid-size venue. Computerized, I can tell; it's so tight, like 10(??) rows of multi-colored lights. ++++deadmau5's own visuals! Great show. Just the light show in itself was great. Haha. Serious, you don't even have to be on anything to get absorbed in the light show.

They wouldn't allow in cameras and made me check mine in (fee: $3). lameeee. But I guess the security man at the door was laxer than the security woman–inside I saw guys taking pics and video on their cameras. xT Link to a pretty good video below.

I was standing in the center right, on the bar floor– 3 steps higher than general floor –so I got a decent view. Got to see the mau5 push buttons and twist knobs the whole time. Everyone cheered whenever he took his mau5head off and when he put it on. Ahah. Some kids also gave/flung kandi to/at the mau5. And he wore it and showed us. What a chill dude.

youtube HD videos: Deadmau5 - Strobe (lovely intro!)
You Need a Ladder (Zelda theme)/Bass Phenomenon. @House of Blues, San Diego, nov.1.

Heard that Deadmau5 made a special guest appearance at Hard Haunted Mansion Saturday night in LA. (His name was only on the Friday line-up.) Tight.

Armin @ monstermassive2009

arminvanbuuren
OMG! Even though they only allowed me to play 2 hours it was #monsterMASSIVE!!! 35.000 people!! Gotta love L.A.!
from Echofon

On my way to the L.A. Sportsarena for#monstermassive! 3 hour set, one hour extra due to daylight saving time!

Aaaah if he played an extra hour it would have totally made my night!!! European-style: 3hr+ long sets. Aaah oh well, guess I'll just have to wait til I go to Europe to go to those super long parties where headliner DJs spin for 4 hours straight.

Nonetheless, Monster Massive was pretty good. My first MM. Before they've always had the main stage inside the Sports Arena, but then because this year they got AvB to headline (only meine lieblingsDJ and the #1 DJ in the world!!), it would be way too packed and overheated in there, so they moved it to this parking lot outside, and as you can see from Armin's twitpic, HELLA packed. Cool set-up though, in the parking lot. 8 of these cube/boxes with projection screens, lights, fire, and speakers. Way to rock it.

Going to try to not write such a lengthy review of MM—I need to try to get some reading done before heading out to see Deadmau5 in downtown in a couple hours (! Fall quarter is so busy! events-wise). So, it was quite good. The LINE into the place was ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. I'll post pics later. The electro stage inside the sports arena might have been ok, checked out Pete Tong for a bit, didn't like his music.

John O'Callaghan: He played a lot of harder trance/really bassy songs, with a few of his own tracks sandwiched in. Think I liked his set at the Lovefest Afterparty 4 weeks ago better.

Armin: =) the more well-known tracks that I can remember that he played: Home (by PvD), Symfo (Rank1), Falling in and out of love (AvB), a couple of other vocal trance tracks that I think I sang along to, and he ended with John O'Callaghan's "Find Yourself", which John O'Callaghan himself already played in his set earlier, though I think Armin played a different remix. =\ I don't like it when the same tracks get played more than once in a night. That shouldn't happen. Well, Armin definitely planned to play Find Yourself as part of his set, but..he knew JOC was playing at MM, too, and it's his own track.. :| I dunno. At the Lovefest Afterpary 2008, ATB played a remix of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", then later Armin played a different remix. o__O;; Shouldn't he have backup songs planned in his set in case another DJ's already played it? Hmm..

Alright that's enough blogging for today. More photo-entries to come. :)

Monster Massive!

is today!

What am I excited for???
2HOUR sets each by
aaah I can tell Armin's set is going to be great! What with his winning the #1 DJ in der Welt (DJ Mag) for the 3rd time!

MONSTERMASSIVE website with timeslots and more info.

So take a look at this map..
The "TOMB OF DOOM" trance stage is going to be outside.. GREAT! (not sarcastic–because it means that the place won't overheat as would in a room) But...in a parking lot.. (see corresponding satellite image provided by Google maps below)And there're only going to have port-o-potties at the end of the parking lot??! Ehh? I hope there'll be regular decent clean restrooms.

I'm not going to dress up as usual. Well, except for a blue and black top I purchased at Hot Topic in 9th grade that still isn't very special, but hopefully will show I made some sort of lazy attempt to dress up. :\ *shrugs*

Well, Happy Halloween! Hope you're doing something fun this weekend! Hard Haunted is also today, and the first night was yesterday. Deadmau5 on Sunday in downtown San Diego!

WHY? @theLoft

unknown photographer & subject. reblogged onto blogger from tumblrs.

Went to the WHY? show tonight (meaning Thursday) at the Loft on campus.
It was good, despite the absurd wait.
Originally the show was set to start at 10pm (late night show presented by Club Mercy), then I checked the Loft website to make sure, and it got set back to 10:30, doors at 10. I got there five past 10, doors didn't open until like 10:45. Got in sometime after 11. The Loft got licensed to sell alcohol now. WHY? finally got on stage at midnight. Tall people in front of me, but then I managed to squeeze through to about the 6th or 7th row. It was a good show, thought I wish it were longer/they had started earlier. Only about an hour's show. You'd think if there weren't any other bands playing, that the band would play a longer set. But oh wells. It was still fairly enjoyable, after the long wait. Fun, lots of people knew the lyrics and sang along. I'll upload pictures in a week, though with my point-and-shoot, my photos are again crappy. In a week because I have 3 midterms this coming week (MWF), along with a critical essay due on Tuesday. Took my German midterm today and got a B+. Somehow I overslept, but my friend called me after she finished the test and I got on campus when the class ended. Fortunately die Leherin war in ihrem Büro, office hours, and she let me take the midterm.

I don't know how I've never been there before. x[

Today I unintentionally ran 6 miles, instead of my usual 4. Ughh these big curving La Jolla/UTC streets are so disorienting. I should consult a map next time before deciding to try a new route. Also, my chances of getting hit by a car are increasing. I just need to get over my fear of getting hit by a car and not hesitate running across the crosswalk right when the light turns green.

I'm pretty tired right now, should go to bed, but I've gotten into the habit of blogging every day.

fight on the muni

"Oct 7, 2009 10am, Chinatown San Francisco. This fight occurred on the Muni Stockton route (the 9 i think) just before the stockton tunnel. As you can see, a simple argument about seat-hogging quickly turned into a full blown brawl. It's pretty clear who threw the first punch, you can see the bus' serial number, and the exact time in the video.
By the way, this is the same bus where I was attacked 3 weeks ago, so I thought documenting the event was the most important thing I could do. This fight was NOT reported by the driver OR by the MUNI person who happened to be at the final stop (Stockton and Sutter). I'll be walking to work for a while."

stuff hipsters hate

ChrEmo Kids
You’ve probably bumped into this type before—in Salvation Army, browsing through old bomber jackets; in the coffee shop, meandering to find a free outlet; in the used book store, running your finger over the old yellow paperbacks’ spines. They carry around guitars and notebooks and iPhones like hipsters. They walk like hipsters. But they sure as hell don’t talk like hipsters. They are the “cool” followers of Christ, and they’ve basically succeeded in sapping all the fun out of hipsterdom.

It doesn’t take long to out one of these strange pseudo-scenesters. For a minute, he seems cool. Then you notice his overall enthusiasm, his joie de vivre. Your bullshit detector starts letting out its feeble beep. He giggles and tells wholesome stories about that time they all went camping and the girls stole everyone’s towels. Then one of two things will happen. Either he’ll begin witnessing, a broad swath attempt at evangelism that breeds nothing but awkwardness. Or he’ll seduce you with his refreshing cheer and impeccable manners and even agree to come home with you, suddenly sitting upright on the couch mid-make-out to whisper, “There’s something I have to tell you…I’m a virgin.”

How can one call oneself a hipster if one does not drink to the point of blacking out? Or smoke pot regularly? Or say “fuck” a lot? What self-respecting scenester would be caught dead saying grace before a meal or taking a moment to pray with the band before getting onstage? And in the name of all things holy, how are these people surviving without sex?! The junk-showcasing skinny jeans, the sculpted hair, the sullen glances at attractive specimens from the other side of the bus—all for naught. Why they even get out of bed in the morning is beyond me. Because there sure as hell ain’t anyone warm and mussed and smelling of tobacco on the other side of it.

This is now my second favorite site after "Stuff White People Like".
Shit is great.
or maybe first-favorite site, since I've spent 2 hours reading it last night instead of my Intro to Environmental Economics textbook.

men wearing hosiery

We received an e-mail at the factory from Eugene Wong in the UK telling us how much he loved our hosiery. Which had us a bit confused at first but after a quick Google search, we learned that this is a growing trend among men. As strange as it may seem, I'm sure most people would be on the "no" side of the fence. But Eugene looks pretty dandy in his color- coordinated tights. —American Apparel fbook page

Stephen C. Banks
I probably could work some classic mens hosiery. 1500's here I come. XD
vor 2 Stunden

lol I'm not sure what I think about this trend. Looks alright on this Eugene. I guess some indie/hipster-ish skinny guys or fashionable businessmen could pull this off. I've only seen it worn by one of my previous track coaches. But then it wasn't really hosiery. Just spandex under shorts. Hmm..

American Apparel flea market on campus today! That's something to wake up early for, haha. omgosh..if they have t-shirts on sale (they will), I'm going to be so tempted. But I already have too many t-shirts. ahhhk

Strength, DEELAY CEELAY, and STARFUCKER @theLOFT

Went to my first show this quarter at the Loft. Great show.

Strength, from Portland, Oregon
They were good. I out-of-habitly felt a dislike toward them (opening bands), but then, yeah, they were pretty good. Fun. Prejudice gone.
Genre: nu-disco/indie-dance.
Next band: DEELAY CEELAY. also from Portland. myspace.
Excellent! ★★★★★
If you like: air (french duo), boards of canada, kyte, postal service, liquid drum'n'bass, trance, idm.
Two guys, both on the drums. The rest of the sounds they recorded beforehand, I believe. I was on the front right (yes good thing I brought my earplugs) next to this guy video-recording who happened to be one of the band members' brother. He told me "Deelay Ceelay" came from their names: Delanay, and Chris Lael. Sorry not so great pictures.

They had their own visuals playing, too. So win. One of the guys is a visual artist, the other a percussionist. Makes for a spell-binding show. They had strobe lights set-up under their drum sets, and then the psychedelic visuals. Watch video of a live show in Seattle.
Download their album (4 tracks) for free on their website or just click here.

Finally, Starfucker. Ok, looks like they're all from Portland.
Genre: indie-electro, synth-pop
I seriously didn't know that they were quite well-known (relatively/indie scene-wise). The Loft was pretty packed, definitely more than what I expected. I got their album "Jupiter" a few months ago, liked it, and so when I saw they were coming to the Loft, made a note on my calendar to go. Didn't look them up or anything. Well, they played a few songs that weren't on Jupiter and that a lot of kids knew, so I figured that wasn't their debut album. They played a good show. But it was a little annoying that they kept pausing to change monitor volumes, pick up a dropped drumstick, change mic volumes. Still alright. They ended with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
Oh, and they're changing their name. You can e-mail them suggestions. There's a band from Belgium of the same name. Guy in crowd: "Planetfucker!" Maybe not..

CCP's 60th Anniversary

From the displays of advanced weaponry to the celebration posters highlighting Shanghai's forest of skyscrapers, the unmistakable message of the celebration was that Mao was right and that the Communist Party is carrying all China to prosperity and worldwide respect.

“There is no ideology in China anymore,” Zhang Ming, a professor of political science at Renmin University in Beijing, said in an interview on Wednesday. “The government has no ideology. The people have no ideology. The reason the government is in power is because they can say: ‘I can make your lives better every day. I can give you stability. And I have the power.’ As long as they make people’s lives better, it’s O.K. But what happens on the day when they no longer can?”

On Day for China Pride, Little Interest in Ideology | NYtimes
