redesign the old Bay Bridge span?

One of the architectural renderings by David Dana for his design imagining the east span of the
Bay Bridge recycled for use as a community including farms, housing and a nine-story hotel.

So if the bridge is unstable now and costs too much to repair, what do they think will happen when they put housing on it? It will magically become stable?

off the bridge!

photo: Noah Berger

The crumpled remains of a big rig lie beneath the Bay Bridge on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009,
following an early morning crash. The truck's driver died after losing control on the
bridge's temporary S-curve and crashing to the ground several hundred feet below.

This just goes to show that Americans can't adapt to change to save their own lives. They should install S-curves everywhere in America.

Bay Bridge closed again

Traffic is stopped and backed up near the Bay Bridge toll plaza as pieces of
the cantilever section fell during the late-afternoon commute.

2nd accident in less than two weeks.
But beautiful photos, the bridge without cars.

The first two photos feel like Gran Turismo, esp. like from the intro video before the main screen loads.

sidedown safeway truck

A Safeway store store big-rig overturned on the new "S" curve of the Bay Bridge blocking all but one lane in the West bound direction in Oakland, CA, on Wednesday October 14, 2009.

Bay Bridge reopens after crash on upper deck
Where has that guy been? A truck driver who hasn't heard of the new Bay Bridge span??
even if he's from Bakersfield. A truck driver! You'd think his employer, Safeway, would inform him of such news.
Watch this CBS video showing how horrendously backed-up the traffic got.
has got to be one of the worst places to be in America on Wednesday.

Bay Bridge S-curve slows drive time

Go for a walk, down a busy street, in a shopping district perhaps. Look around you. Look at all the distracted little lambs wandering this way and that, people on their cell phones, texting, looking in windows, mezmerized by all the bright shiney things therein. These are the very same people in the cars next to you, hurdling along at 60+ miles per hour in a two ton fire burning collection of metal, plastic and rubber; they're hands maybe on the wheel; their minds only God knows where. These are the same people that share the highway with you, most of them sheep, clueless, barely able to walk intelligently down the sidewalk.

If you choose to drive, DRIVE. Engage. Drive with purpose. Drive with integrity and precision. Focus. Think about your physical surroundings for a change. Think about the power under your foot, in your hands. We're depending on you. Our safety depends on you.

bay bridge update

The 300 foot section of the temporary roadway on the Bay Bridge nears completion as the gap is slowly closed, meeting the new decks as seen from Yerba Buena Island in San Francisco, Calif., on Saturday September 5, 2009.

Wow, empty Bay Bridge!

"On Saturday night, crews completed the monumental task of maneuvering a new section of the bridge into place, making the span whole once again and capping two days of a nail-biting operation never tried before." [more: Crack in span may delay Bay Bridge opening]

Popscene was fun Friday night. Think I liked the music at blowup the week before more, though. Anyhow, time for a different venue for the next event I go to.
Oh, and I met Aaron Axelsen! He took a picture of me at the entrance. (maybe he takes pics of everyone who goes in?) But I didn't think to get a picture with him. Next time.

bay bridge closure

A 300-foot double-deck section of the Bay Bridge east of Yerba Buena Island Tunnel left will be cut and slid away on Labor Day weekend. The new temporary replacement right will be slid into place allowing for the removal of the old span. The new detour will be a slightly different drive as the roadway curves to the south, requiring drivers to slow down while approaching or leaving the tunnel.

liking the eastern span so far

Sleek indeed. But are they going to demolish the old span?
That would be sad. Everyone would get nostalgia.

Apparently I don't get the infamous asian glow and I have impressive tolerance for someone who doesn't drink. Yay. (Not sarcastic.)

I want to go to both BFD and Independence Jam
I will study so hard before that weekend, because after that weekend: Finals.

still working on that new bay bridge span

Workers prepare the new self-anchored suspension span tower of the Bay Bridge.
Making up for lost time in building Bay Bridge

I have a paper due tomorrow, which I should be working on now, but I like to catch up on some news first. SFChronicle is going to print in a new format/layout. Hmm.. But I won't get to see it til I go back up for spring break. They better not change the fonts. If they do, I'm gonna die, and many others.

I'll music blog tomorrow or later this week.

Bay Bridge Eastern Span

I can't believe what a hippie comment I'm about to make but... Do folks realize that this entire massive and crucial public project could be funded by 2.5 days of what is spent in Iraq? What a wonderful place we could have made this country...
New Bay Bridge span on road to being icon

This is such a nice picture.
