swedish sweets

Martin Johansson saw the American cupcake boom firsthand during a two-year stint as the chef at the Swedish Embassy in Washington. In August, after returning to Sweden, he opened Cupcake STHLM with a childhood friend, Mikael Ingeltun, who had spent the past few years as a chef aboard luxury yachts. Rather that importing an American craze, the pair say they are championing the contribution Scandinavian immigrants made to American home cooking.

sushi burrito

Sushi with lots of good stuff: Salmon, Cucumber, Carrot, Takuan (yellow pickled daikon), Green Onion, and some Seaweed. We ran out of seaweed sheets to roll it in so I came up with the insidious idea of using a (yes, your eyes do not deceive you) freaking TORTILLA.
SUSHI BURRITO FTW.

more mark morford musings

All politicians are madhouse freaks
19.feb.2010
– the disgust of american politics, bipartisan deadlock, and the acidic, poisonous congress
– the disgust of meat, coca-cola, the american diet, and dangerously high airbag pressure

Mark Morford teaches yoga! Why didn't I know that before?
I'm pretty certain now that older white guys are my type.
Ok, MM is maybe a bit too old—on note of gray hair— but yoga: fit. and his writing: hot.

I've also been wanting to be vegetarian for while, and semi am one.
On account of the environment damage meat production incurs, the inappropriate amount of energy needed to produce it and just the basic unhealthiness of meat, the argument to slash meat out of one's diet is quite reasonable.
But it's mostly because I'm too lazy and don't want to cook that I don't eat meat at home. My college diet consists mostly of trail mix, bread, yogurt, soy milk, spinach and romaine leaves, vegetarian pizza, tortellini, and chocolate. (way to be asian.) When I go eat out, however, I'm more inclined to order something with meat since I don't eat it at home. Turkey sandwich or chicken sausage omelette or a lamb Indian dish. Totally off beef, though. On Wednesday, I had a panang beef sandwich at the thai place on campus. bad choice. did not feel good.

Anyone else semi-/mostly vegetarian?

San Diego Restaurant Week

Pizza at Cucina Urbana
I want to go!!!
Someplace nice downtown like Cucina Urbana or Currant.
Sucks..this kind of city/urbanization system where everyone is dependent on motor vehicles.. can't get anywhere too easily without one. (I've been reading all day. Holy scheiß there's so much shit to read, for all my classes. Today I finally finished this super long reading–practically a whole book–about the beginnings of urbanization and cities and all that.)

Last quarter, I was pretty healthy and mostly prudent–didn't spend too much on food. A couple weeks I would have soup and bread from Whole Foods, another couple weeks salad, tortellini, more bread... This quarter I'm tired of heating up food in a pot. And especially after winter break, during which I ate out quite often. Now this quarter I just want to go eat out a few times a week, and try a bunch of different places. But..too much $$. I needz more moneyzz to maintain a healthy foodie diet. lolz. I went to the Cottage twice last week, that's a total of almost $40 (more than I spend on a single grocery trip). Gyahhz. Good food.. nom. I'm still maintaining a pretty healthy lifestyle/diet though. Running and yoga, salad and yogurt, bread and nutella and soy milk and fruit. and chocolate. :)

longest roll

photo: Noah Berger
Japanese Consul General Yasumasa Nagamine confirmed that UC Berkeley students made the world’s longest California roll at Sproul Plaza in Berkeley on Sunday. Several hundred students used 200 pounds of rice, 80 pounds of avocado and 80 pounds of cucumber to construct a 331-foot roll.
Way to go. Roll on you asian bears.

(not sure myself if I mean to be be sarcastic.)

BTW, I changed my blog title again because I realised that "illalla" is too fun to say.
"kiitos" is Finnish for "thank you", and "ei kestä" means "you're welcome".
It'd be nice to have more free time so I can get back to learning Finnish.
