Genre: Metal (gothic, symphonic)
Album: At Sixes and Sevens
Release Date: 13.Aug.2002
Label: Napalm
Rating: SEHR GUT. Buy.

SIRENIA plays a mixture of gothic metal with classical influences, as well as black and death metal nuances. These musical creations have solid foundation in the powerful drums and bass and are accompanied by driving rhythm guitars, coupled with lilting keyboards, melancholic violins and 12-string guitars. The divergence of vocals utilized are numerous, with the use of growls, screams, female vocals, (3 different) clean male vocals, choirs, whispers and samples. The songs are very intense and the atmosphere changes frequently. The lyrics are based on reflections on life, death, love, hate, mental decline in general and celibacy (joke). —excerpt from an Amazon review

Sirenia (wiki) is a band from Stavenger, Norway started by Morten Veland who parted from Tristania. Looks like Sirenia went through 3 female vocalists. xD gawsh that's kinda a lot. Fabienne Gondamin sang in this 2002 album. Now their new singer is Ailyn from Spain. Go to their myspace and listen to 'The Path to Decay'. Zahhs it's good!

Okay, maybe some people don't think this album's that great, like that guy who wrote that review on amazon. I would have to agree with a few of the things he pointed out though.
When I first listened to this album, I felt very frustrated with the vocals. I thought/think that the vocals could be a lot stronger and louder. (This is after I started listening to Nightwish and Epica.) But then after a few listens and really liking the songs a lot, I decided to just chillout about the vocals. Maybe the female vocalist, Monika Pederson from Denmark this time, just isn't an operatic singer, and definitely not all metal has operatic vocals. So maybe I shouldn't compare Sirenia to Nightwish.
This album is so good, though! Too short though, I always end up listening to it twice each time. I think the lyrics are quite good, too. Not too vague, ambiguous, symbolic metal lyrics. Haha.

PSY TRANCE rips
I ripped these psy trance tracks some time ago from DI.fm internet radio's psy trance channel using Streamripper for Winamp. It's just too difficult to find psy trance singles anywhere, or maybe I just haven't found some neat psy trance downloads forum. But I'm not that into psy trance anyways, so ripping was the easy way to go to load my iPod with some new goa.
Psy trance 1 (.rar 53mb)
Cosmosis - The First Step
ESXS - Mechanic Day Dream
Fatali - Hyper Love
Neuromotor - Electrofuck
Nissimyani - Start Up
Silent Scream - Twist'n'Turns
Space Buddha - Full Circle
Tegma - No Time
Visual Paradox - Thunder (Rmx)
Zen Mechanics - Dolly Dots
Psy trance 2 (.rar 85mb)
Glassball - Lethal Injection (March 2007)
Headroom - Sweet Like A Lemon
Human Blue - Rollercoaster
Impact - Presented by Talamasca (December 2006) with guest DJ Lotus
Redax Mental - Brain Crusher Vol. 9 (August 2006) with guest FractalGee
Space Buddha - White Widow
System Nipel - Afronomical
Tsunami Spotlight USA Presents - Lauryn [Peak Recs, 28th day] (January 2007)
Psy trance 3 (.rar 98mb)
Dj Shoom - Tweakers and Phreakers [31 min. rip of a mix]
Morlack and Shiva Joerg - Frequency Patterns (August 2005) [1hr53m rip of a mix)
And for the many of you who have never heard of psy trance,..
"psy" for psychedelic. "trance" because it is similar to trance in..the song pattern like into-climax-kinda, I guess.. It's also called "goa", after the coast city in India. I think psy trance spread from there, maybe. Read the WIKI article. Psy trance is very fast, 150bpm+, usually, as fast or can be faster than drum & bass.
You see, trance is basically ecstasy without the pill.
And psy/goa trance, is acid.
So if you're listening to psy trance for the first time, you might get a headache. It takes some time to get used to. I remember when I was first getting into psy trance, and I was listening to it while doing math hw, and my head just hurt. I advise you to not listen to psy trance while doing homework that requires a significant amount of thinking.
One more thing:
There's this one BEAUTIFUL instrument used in psy trance. The PSYTAR.
Danggg. The psytar? Doesn't that sound so freakin' cool?
Yepp, electric guitar tuned really crazily.
Or just the electric guitar used in really good full-on psy.
And for those who are unwilling to download,
stream P H I L O S O M A T I K A. I would say it's better than di.fm's psy/goa channel.
I only found out about philosomatika a couple months ago, but it's really good. I was listening to psy trance like for more than a hour straight on several nights while doing hw. Yahh.

Head-Fi
Head-Fi
for the headphones geeks.
Read through this review of a portable headphone amp. Like wtf?! Did you even know there are headphone amps??!
But I think I do want some Caffeine..
Quite unnecessary, yes I know. I probably listen to music too loudly already, or mostly I just listen to music for prolonged periods of time. Good thing it's sold out, though. Else I might actually buy it.
Ehh I am kinda getting in-the-know about headphones/earbuds. The right side of my V-Modas starting going off a week ago already. Gyahh! and I've only had them since early November! Blahh! Darnit I really should have listened to the reviews, but I just couldn't resist since they look so effing bomb. Plus I was getting too irritated with my roommates so I need a good pair of noise-isolating earbuds. (I was using the crap apple earbuds that came with my iPod, though when I'm in my room I usu. use my Sony MDR-V6, but that doesn't drown out my Korean roommate LOLing and clapping and stomping her feet in dumbass hilarity while watching Korean shows. ) Gyahhk so now I have to send those back to get a new pair. But the packaging's in my dorm room, so will only be able to do that when I get back to school. I KNOW I will NOT survive without sound-isolating earbuds at school for 2 weeks. o m g I would die. So what have I decided on?
Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket.
I don't think I'm getting pink, though.
But gyahhk! I spent 70$ on V-Modas, and then I'll spend $40 on these, made me wonder if I should have gotten Shures first-off. But NO. Not Shures. They look weird. And the bass isn't so good. I LOVE the bass on the V-Modas. When I first listened to music on my V-Modas, it was like "WOW. i HEAR and feel the bass." Wonderful. And definitely quite good mids and highs. (70$ earbuds wtf do you think?!) And so now on my MDR-V6 or anything else, I have to really try to hear the bass in some music. Oh, plus, I really like the slanted plug/jack whatever you call it on the V-Modas, instead of having a straight vert or horizontal one and having to bend it. From the reviews, looks like the FMJs should suffice well for me.
I've seen some Skullcandys in the UCSD bookstore. I hope they have these, and at a bit lower price.
Aahk my standards for things keep going up, but my money's not increasing much.
(Also because I bought a mixer and a CDJ. >___<;;
and I should be practicing right now instead of blogging.)

Cal Pwned UW to go on to Emerald Bowl
Washington fans didn't see a season-ending miracle at Memorial Stadium as their Huskies became the first Pac-10 team to finish with a 0-12 record.
Ok, real music post after this week, FINALs week! Two of my hardest finals (Japanese and Microeconomics) on Thursday one right after the other, and then packing and leaving for home! Jag är exalterad!
Note: JzL — Diatonic Chromatica 030
Quite good trance mix with new mash-ups(!) on AH.fm.

GIVE THANKS!!! **note—sort of blog/ranting +BEAT UNIVERITY@ SUPPER CLUB, SF
holy crap am I so excited to go to another rave.
I just listened to Armin van Buuren's episode 378 of his weekly radio show 'A State of Trance' 2-hr mix the whole way through. OMG such a great episode. And then I go online and tune into AH.fm and that's playing quite a good mix right now, too. Right when I tuned in it was playing Oceanlab (Above & Beyond) - Breaking Ties (some remix). ZOMG, the above & beyond analogue heaven remix of that track is my favourite tune right now. It's HUGE.
Now some of my serotonin has been releasing and I feel sort of energetic, though it's 3:30am right now. Yeee~
Holy crap do you see that trance line-up??
zahhhs!
omg am I quite the trance-addict.
Today I woke up around noon. And there's nothing to on campus or off-campus here, so I sat diligently at my desk and read stuff for class most of the day. Like til 11. Then I walked around listening to asot378. And now I feel really awake. Haha who needs to pop ecstasy when there's obscenely orgasmic trance? Definitely not me! lollls I sound so lame.
Oh man I'm almost on a trance high right now. And I should be sleeping so I can wake up and have breakfast in time for church tomorrow. But I also want to do some econ homework. Haha.
Oh yeah, about the rave:
I guess this Craneway Pavilion in Richmond got renovated or something, and a number of raves already booked the venue. It's right next to the water, from the pics it looks pretty nice.
And this is Midnite Event's 3rd Thanksgiving Rave. The first one was 'Be Thankful' followed by 'Be Thankful 2'. But it was at the Regency Center in SF last year, and I wasn't 18 yet, so I did not attend. I think Solarstone headlined.
But:
COSMIC GATE (Black Hole Recordings, Germany)
SEAN TYAS (Armada / Discover, Switzerland)
SUPER8 & TAB (Anjunabeats, Finland)
DEEP VOICES Dyloot (Skills, San Francisco)
Aaaah!!! *_____*
And the rest of the lineup though I don't listen to those genres should be quite good as well.
Who wants to go with me??
=D
Holy crap this sucks I am going to miss Beat University. I don't care much about the DJs/line-up, the non-profit this is cool, but... it's...
At the SUPPERCLUB. Dannnng does that place look hot or what. I've read an article about that place in a magazine or somewhere some time ago when it first opened, but it was mainly a restaurant review, about always different kinds of food, and lounging on the beds(???!) Here's a review I just found: SFstation.
Okay I'm done for tonight. Ahah it's 4am now. But tonight, both my roommates are still up. xD
=D

WISHLIST! + more morford.
2 CDJ's. (Pioneer)
—ebay CDJ-1000, 2 CDJ-800MK2+mixer !dyahh $$$!
Mixer (Vestax or Pioneer)
Summer2009: Study abroad in Sweden
DSLR! (digital manual camera) Canon Rebel or Nikon? Panasonic Lumix is alright, not so heavy.
expensive.. Ich brache Gelt. =[
On another note, Morford's writing is still ++++.
American cars are still uniformly god-awful. Why save them?
Get on with it, America. Clean Diesel.
Stuff like this makes me want to go to Europe even more.
The 65 mpg Ford the U.S. Can't Have
Ford's Fiesta ECOnetic gets an astonishing 65 mpg, but the carmaker can't afford to sell it in the U.S.
Back to Morford:
Unhappy people watch lots more toob. But it doesn't stop there.

You might disagree. You might say, hey wait a minute, not all American cars are as dreadful and ill-equipped as Sarah Palin at a science fair.Detroit must die

Back to Morford:
oh my God don't you know this here life is a veritable liquid madhouse of unhappiness? A giant smoldering smoothie of misery and angst and vague feelings of inadequacy and spiritual barrenness? It's the American way.Misery loves TV
Unhappy people watch lots more toob. But it doesn't stop there.
Happy people usually only want a long walk, some sunshine, maybe a margarita and a good book and messy oral sex every hour or two. That's easy. It's unhappy people who really drive the economy. Unhappy people make capitalism go. This is why we like to create so many of them.As liberal as Mark Morford is, I still love his writing. He speaketh the truth.

Talla 2XLC vs Carl B feat. Katie Marne - Giving Up Giving In (Talla 2xlc & Ace Da Brain Mix)
Fresh new trance! =D
I should totally mix these tracks. But, haha, I need blank cds. lol. I'll go buy some when I go home for Thanksgiving. But almost all these tracks are pretty uplifting, climactic, beautiful.
So yeah, until I mix with my own cds, just download and enjoy!
Okay, I'm getting behind on my blogging.
But today, after 2 DJing lessons, I practiced mixing. =D
Like a straight mix, but of course not so much focus on track selection. I screwed up a couple times, but yeah, was told it was pretty good, just need to practice practice practice. =) I just used a couple cds from the guy who's teaching me. I must say I love CDJ's, as cooler as vinyl is, CDJ's show the BPM of the track that's playing. And wow how much easier that is. Vinyl—awesome, the original way, but expensive. 11.99$ for a record, like a track and a remix, or maybe a track or 2 or 3. There's a box of vinyl in the DJ club office, but I don't know a lot of those records and it would take so long trying to find two records of close BPM to mix with.
Ahh, mp3s and CDJ's.
Added to my wishlist:
2 CDJ's and a mixer.
So the guy who's teaching me told me I should start downloading hella (okay he didn't say 'hella', he's from socal) trance singles, and linked me to a couple sites.
and zomg. Soon, my still quite new macbook will be full of trance. Hahaha =D
Anyways, I just downoaded 900mbs of trance singles. I will sample them, select a track and maybe a remix from each single, rar/zip it, and upload it here so ya'll can chill to some fresh trance. Aight?
Alright yeah since I'm behind on my blogging, or at least I feel like it, (I've been trying to study/read more/ahead in homework, and leave online time for past-midnight), I'm gonna draft up a list of blogposts so I won't get lazy on this.
Next up:
silversun pickups, wild sweet oranges, smashing pumpkins, bloc party,
haven't been on ongoingmelody for a while, so no new asianpop, though I want to post ELLEGARDEN's discography.
auf wiedersehen! jaa mata!

historic day
Obama totally won the electoral votes: 338 of the needed 270, while McCain only got 129. I just watched a bit of McCain's concession speech on CNN. Yeee Obama. Helgeln Sie und Glückwünsche zu unsere neuen Präsident! Don't screw us up, though. That's why I don't own any Obama shirts. Counting's still going to be going on for a while, we'll see how close the popular votes turn out. Plus all the sehr wichtige California props.
I'll leave you with this photo taken earlier today, while I return to writing and revising my CAT (culture, art & technology) paper. Zurück zu Musik morgen!

2. Believe
3. This Is Not the End
4. Every Word Is a Knife in My Ear
5. Bad Sun
6. Time Won't Let Me Go
7. Tragedy Bound
8. Fistful of Sand

10. Split Me Wide Open ★★★★★ my new favourite track
11. Above and Below
12. The Ocean
The first disc has the version of 'Believe' and 'Time Won't Let Me Go' that you've heard on the radio. The second disc, The Moon, as I've skimmed over in the amazon reviews is the lead singer and songwriter's versions. Same lyrics and tracks on The Moon, but they're sort of electronic-y, with the addition of bass-synths. Really, you need to listen to both albums. So good (I've listened to it on repeat like 3 times already). Highly recommended, GET THIS ALBUM!

also, the titles aren't capitalized, and don't have the parentheticals. you can rename them yourself, but you're going to buy the album, so it doesn't really matter, right?

THIS is one of those really good trance mixes that I think are so good that I haven't listened past the first track. I mean, just look at the tracklist! If I start listening for more than 5 minutes, I'll have to listen to the whole 3-hour mix! Zomg Aly& Fila are so pwnage. They play great trance tracks consistently, as in they don't play any of that crap pounding-electro after climax that a lot of well-known trance djs do. AND they always play quite a few of their own remixes, which is ++.
VOTE for them on the djlist. (DJmag's top 100 poll ended.)

LOVEFEST WEEKEND!!!!! (incl. Sigur Rós)
zomg the best weekend evarrr.
Starting with Sigur Rós at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley.
Opening band: Parachutes (myspace). Related to a member of Sigur Rós. Their music was similar to Sigur Ros, but I guess a bit pop-y-ish or not, I'm don't quite know how to describe it. But they were okay, on song, the girl there playing the violin and a guy played a xylophone duet. Haha it was cute.
SIGUR ROS! I'm not quite a fan of their music (I couldn't even get through listening to their whole album), and after their performance, am still not, but yeah they are quite uber cool.
Bow on electric guitar? Craaazy. And for one song the bassist used a drumstick.
SF LOVEFEST 2008!
I missed the parade, and didn't hang around the festival grounds for too long, because..I went to Official Afterparty this year!!!! =DDD
Deep Voices (SF) started off, good set (from the few minutes that I heard), I wish I hadn't missed almost all of it but I was trying to get my friends into the party.
Kyau vs. Albert (Germany) spun next. I think their mix was pretty decent, they played some of their classic tracks, but I don't totally remember.
Next, ATB(Germany)! I honestly haven't listened to any of his mixes or anything prior to this, except maybe that 'Ecstasy' song or something, but yeah, nothing. I would say his set was definitely the best of the whole night's. And then a girl gave me candy (kandi? kandy? candi?) that was beaded with 'ATB ROX'. Haha =)
Following ATB, Above & Beyond (UK)! Those guys are so nice! Or, well, I don't really know, of course, but one of them crowdsurfed and the other was smiling/crazy happy the whole during the set. =) Really good set, too. Oceanlab (one of their aliases, a project)- Satellite, Miracle ("are you hoping for a miracle? as the icebergs melt away") A&B- Can't Sleep, Home. Ahh those guys are great. Lovely trance.
And finally, ARMIN VAN BUUREN (Netherlands)!!! Zomg!
Definitely not one of his best sets, but still, Armin! Hahaha I'm such an avb fan. He posed quite a number of times for us. haha. He played his new track with Jennifer Rene (?)- Unforgivable, and ended the night with Going Wrong (-avb & DJ Shah ft. Chris Jones). =)
Okay, the best tracks of the night that I'm really glad the djs played and made my night, before I forget:
andain: beautiful things (Gabriel & Dresden remix? don't remember)
dash berlin: 'til the sky falls down (remix?)
imogen heap: hide and seek (remix? not Tiesto's ISOS remix, though)
sunlounger ft zara: lost ("let your fears go, you might find your way back home...")[LOVELY TRACK!!!]
john o'callahan ft audrey gallergher: big sky (remix?)
dj shah ft adrina thorpe: who will find me (remix?) [one of my faaavourite tracks, but not this remix)
and of course, ATB rockin' the crowd with Nirvana.
I'm sure there were at least a couple of other tracks that were really good, but I can't recall them at the moment.
Okay, pictures of lovefest & afterparty later. =]

I can't believe what a hippie comment I'm about to make but... Do folks realize that this entire massive and crucial public project could be funded by 2.5 days of what is spent in Iraq? What a wonderful place we could have made this country...

mp3s!
I'm starting the process of cleaning out this laptop to return to its original owner. I got a macbook a couple weeks ago.
I dunno how to save the iTunes library playlist into a nice single file, so I prt scrn'd.
If you would like any of the music I have here, leave me a comment with your e-mail or AIM sn and I will send them to you. And my aim is d7yk0. I don't have much good stuff on this computer though. Most of it is a ton of j-pop stuffs that I sampled for my music for my aunt's japanese restaurant, so I skipped those.

September beginnt!
Yes I got a pair of Onitsuka Tigers!
Score!
It was between this pair and another of almost the same style and different colours. There isn't a pic of the other pair on the Bows & Arrows site, but it's white and the asics lines are this nice brightish blue that I like, but with hot pink accents, and then a few parts of the shoe are black, and the white part (the green on this pair) is mesh. The mesh I like, the blue and pink okay, but with the black is kinda weird. Like too many colours. But would kind of go with anything. I'm happy with my purchase though. The grey asics lines aren't very stand-out-ish, but it's smooth and I like the laces colours. =D
Aaaah the most expensive shoes I've bought.
AND:
I uploaded Mystre's Blue mix, for my last last last post. DL it! on mediafire.

Oakland Art & Soul Fest 2008
Okay so a few weeks ago I did notice on the live105 soundcheck page that Carolina Liar was no longer on the line-up. Hmm. =[
And that Darker My Love (myspace) was going to play instead. Hmm. I think I've only heard one of their songs before on soundcheck, and it was okay, nothing notable, indie-shit, you know. Haha jk I'll give them a listen.
