a new era of unity

"On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long has strangled our politics," Obama said. "The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit, to choose our better history, to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness."

Among the economic challenges gripping the nation are an unemployment rate hovering at a 16-year high of 7.2 percent, a stock market that has lost $10 trillion in value since October 2007, and a housing crisis that has put millions of homes into foreclosure and has resulted in 10 percent of Americans being late or delinquent in their home payments.

This plum hand-ruched gown by East Bay fashion label Verrières & Sako will be worn by Alejandra Campoverdi to an inaugural ball.

Capital chic: From Bay Area to inauguration

It's a pretty pointless article, just talks about what a few people we've never heard of are going to wear to the inauguration. Well, I guess it's not all that pointless in that it shows that Bay Area designers are doing a lot of great work. But gosh, that dress is so pretty.

My RA left for DC yesterday to attend the inauguration.

historic day

Obama totally won the electoral votes: 338 of the needed 270, while McCain only got 129. I just watched a bit of McCain's concession speech on CNN. Yeee Obama. Helgeln Sie und Glückwünsche zu unsere neuen Präsident! Don't screw us up, though. That's why I don't own any Obama shirts. Counting's still going to be going on for a while, we'll see how close the popular votes turn out. Plus all the sehr wichtige California props.

I'll leave you with this photo taken earlier today, while I return to writing and revising my CAT (culture, art & technology) paper. Zurück zu Musik morgen!
