electronic rumors

Røyksopp [Norweigian band] (Feat. Robyn [Swedish]) - The Girl and the Robot - performance

Actually, this one's a lot cooler. t.A.T.u. - Snegopady (Snowfalls)
yeeah back to Russian techno/electropop! But newer and not nearly as cheesy.

repost blog post from
electronic rumors.
makes me wanna spin indie-electro-pop.

A STATE OF TRANCE episode 400

There is NOTHING right now of importance other than ASOT400.
Live streaming from Germany. +video. If don't want video, DI.FM.
Tomorrow in the UK, Saturday in the Netherlands, Sunday 72hours of trance continued on the radio stream. Oh man this is a fail weekend for homework.

TODAY:

Right now Sied van Riel is spinning. oh man he's good.
The whole freaking line-up is the best.
So effing crazy omg.
The time difference is kinda cool, though. I tuned in around noon, ALMOST forgetting about asot for a moment, and happy that I tuned in on time starting with Myon&Shane54. Missed a bit of Duderstadt because I lost connection. Then I got connected to DI.FM, and OMG dj SHAH's mix...ecstasy. Then I missed Gareth Emery and Armin because I had German class and then I went out to dinner, and also missed Daniel Kandi..=(
But yay last set of the day.. Lol but ASOT ep 250 classics mix is up after this. WOW..look at the timetable. BEST EVER.
Thank you so much Armin van Buuren.
He MUST be the no.1 DJ of ALL-TIME.

After dj Shah's set and I went to German class, oh man, my mind was in such a state of trance I couldn't focus really. Pure ecstasy. wow.

effect of EDM

zomg so my friend loaded me with a good amount of drum'n'bass tracks, and woah, like really good tracks, and it's just totally energizing. Who needs Monster or Red Bull when there's pumpin dnb?! But I really need to finish some hw without going crazy with good dnb, so I tuned into AH.fm trance. So now I'm cold, chilled by trance, but still fidgety/shivery. Haha

One day, I will make a super mix: trance, dnb, psy trance, indie-electro. It will be the shit. The crowd will go crazy. start off with some nice indie-electro, then build-up to euphoric trance, next break the spell with dnb, then spasm into drug-free acid trips with psy trance. WOW I so want to do that. Seriously. Need some psy trance, though.

going-ons

I apologize for lack of recent (music) posts.
My spring quarter schedule and classes are keeping me quite busy. Classes aren't really hard or anything, I just take so freaking long to do homework. Relearning freaking calculus, readings, stupid online econ homework, learning more German words..

I went to a show last Wednesday at the Loft, was going to write a review, lol I saved a draft of the blog post so far, with just the title, ahah. It was great. Purple&Red, Neon Trees (they opened up the Killers before), and The Republic Tigers. I guess I could be blogging more about that now, but no, more stuff to run through.

I just downloaded 11 albums. Will post them maybe when I'm really done with a lot of homework. Which might be a while... Zahhs.

Getting into IDM, though. Gosh I'm becoming so white. Yeah so I'm into EDM, now IDM as well. and Indie rock/pop. like IDM wtf? That's for like 30-something year olds. So hipstercore wth. It's like music to chill back to while sipping wine. Ahah what have I gotten myself into.. WTF. Haha what I get from hanging out with a hipster-ish (or wannabe hipster) lawyer a few times. And we didn't even listen to IDM save for a couple songs. lol I suck.

D000000d. So after I get good at spinning trance, I WANNA SPIN:::
drum'n'bass,
psy trance,
indie-electro,
IDM (chill/trip-hop/ambient/indie)
and maybe breaks, too.

My problem is obvious: I just want to do too much, when not even good at one thing. Me + music, and me + languages.

note: CL—WIN. I met a guy who just so happens to also be into trance! Like no waiiii. Rofl score.

OH! and going to a show at the Loft this Wednesday, too. Friendly Fires. I need to check up their myspace first, since I haven't heard any of their songs yet, but just know that they're pretty good. haha

smoking;; Mark Morford

ESSENTIAL Mark Morford columns:

Give It Up, Smoker 08.April.09
Death, cancer, rotted teeth, emphysema won't do it, but 62 cents will?

and his earlier (2005) column of the same topic:
Dead People Smoke Camels
Quit smoking the EZ way! Pop this new drug, ignore your real issues. God bless America.
It seems obvious but it bears repeating: magic-bullet drugs do nothing. They do nothing to help you change a thing about your addictive tendencies or your attitude or your lifestyle, do nothing to induce any sort of increase in your understanding of how the body works and how the spirit is screaming for attention and just why the hell you might be so easily prone to addiction in the first place. Such prescription drugs don't educate. They don't invoke change. They just numb.

But hell, who cares? Why examine causes? Why try to figure out the reasons behind our toxic tendencies and our weird obsession with things we know are killing us? Simply bomb the problem into submission, and then pretend it's not still right there, simmering just underneath, even nastier and more fanged than before and just aching to manifest itself in some other form. Ain't that America? You're goddamn right it is.

Fuckhell, Mark is still confined to SFgate.com, totally need to get him back in print again! I would cut out his columns and paste them on my walls.

I even agree on the current position of those anti-gay-marriage organization he presented in his most recent column:

Fear the rainbow!
A storm is gathering. Are you afraid, Christian? Are you afraid *enough*?

Mark Morford is such a liberal pagan, and such an obscenely great writer. He has this like unitarian pagan sort of everything is god, we are god, god is a she, buddha, allah, whatever, I dunno worldview. He's crazy. But crazy good. Brings out the truth in his columns, and that's what counts most. Though I don't share and support his worldview, the stuff he writes about are on-point. Read his columns and get addicted.

most read news stories

Most Read, SFgate.com 06.April.2009
  1. Body of missing Tracy girl found in suitcase
  2. Body of missing Northern Calif. girl found
  3. Officials believe they found Miami boaters' bodies
  4. Administration defends Bush wire-taps
  5. Man arrested in death of his brother
  6. Police: Woman runs over ex's pregnant girlfriend
  7. Fox News columnist out after 'Wolverine' review
lol People quite like these dead bodies (and other sad) stories.
Just an observation.

I took the longest time completing the first math assignment. Had to freaking relearn calculus, looking through my old calcbc notebook and apcalc exam study guide book. Hurray for integrals. Can't remember crap anymore, like the pi circle or all those integrals/derivative formulas. Fun.

bailouts

starsnbars 4/5/2009 6:45:48 AM

The pathetic truth is the average American is too "dumbed down" to realize they're getting totally scammed by this "bailout charade" as well as picking up the tab for it. What's really underway is a cleverly orchestrated coup d'tat of our democracy where big business calls all the shots and we the people become merely indentured servants to the state - its called "corporatacracy" and all these bailouts are the initial unveiling. What can we do? Our founding forefathers left us with a damn good document - the Declaration of Independence. It spells out in very clear and succinct language that it is not only our right but our responsibility as citizens to remove or overthrow any government from power that no longer meets the needs of the people and subverts our inalienable rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". Its time we the people take back our country from the "money changers" of Wall Street and their accomplices in Congress.

Textbücher

Spent way too much on textbooks this quarter. =(
Make that a DOUBLE or TRIPLE sadface. That's how sad I am.

bought a used Econ textbook from suitemate: 50$
Calculus textbook + solution manuals from a guy off of FB: 60$ (what a deal ++)
German textbook (ordered the previous edition form Amazon): 10$
German arbeitsbuch (workbook): 50$, amazon
Neuer Wein or something, for German: 30$, amazon
Allerei zum lesen, for German: 12$
CAT3 eugenics reader: 93.74$

total: $305.74

HOLY EFF! That's more than the total amount of money in the stack of lai see I happily found sitting on my desk when I got home for spring break. Exactly 93.74$ more, actually. Gyahhs I will never to able to save money this way. SADFACE. Wie studiere ich in Deutschland?

Yes, I will be able to sell a few of the books back, and I did get quite good deals on some of the purchases, but still, total of $300+ for textbooks? Yes, I could have stolen a math textbook (there's one that's been sitting on the coffee table in building 709's kitchen for days), but no, I shall not steal. ahhgg. Okay, and yes, I know there are people for whom 305$ meant maybe two new textbooks, but those are stupid people who don't know that previous editions work just fine and don't know about facebook marketplace. So no pity on them. Ha. Errg I don't like having to transfer money from my savings account to my checking account so I can have sufficient funds to make purchases. Less towards my savings to go study abroad. =(

And I just spilled water on my math textbook. Way to go.

Oh and I went to Whole Foods twice this week, total around 28$, and I ordered new earplugs off amazon 25$, so total I spent $359 in the course of this first week of spring quarter. Gosh, that was sure fun.

American Idiot Musical Coming Soon

'American Idiot' Takes To The Stage
Green Day is morphing into a collective playwright, unveiling its first effort at Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

Cool, I didn't know Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool founded 924 Gilman.
But sucks, I still haven't been there.
If there's a non-punk-rock show, lemme know.

The New Neues Museum

In the renovation, “All usable scraps and remnants of the original, countless thousands of pieces, big and small, including even bullet holes (if they weren’t too big), were to be incorporated into the building. . . Every wall, floor, lintel, column, frieze, mosaic and ceiling was treated as part of this vast jigsaw puzzle.”

punny

The true punster’s mind cycles through homophones in search of a quip the way small children delight in rhymes or experiment babblingly with language. Accordingly, the least intolerable puns are those that avoid the pun’s essential puerility. Richard Whately, Archbishop of Dublin, was a specialist. He could effortlessly execute the double pun: Noah’s Ark was made of gopher-wood, he would say, but Joan of Arc was maid of Orleans. Some Whately-isms are so complex that they nearly amount to honest jokes: Why can a man never starve in the Great Desert? Because he can eat the sand which is there. But what brought the sandwiches there? Why, Noah sent Ham, and his descendants mustered and bred.

Pun for the Ages, NYtimes

Yes, I really do love puns, though I am not in any rankings of punners. I just enjoy them. I'm bad at making jokes, too.
Gosh, there were really cool guys in my class at Berkeley High. So punny. Spurred by none other than Matthew Wright, of course. In AP Bio, there would be unofficial pun contests. Goshdammit I can't even remember any of those puns right now. Gyahhs. And I haven't heard any good puns lately, or any puns at all. That one in the article is so pwnage, though.

Tara's Organic Ice Cream;; my last name

Tara's Organic Ice Cream
College Ave. Berkeley, CA
Cross street Alcatraz, across from Noah's Bagels, a block from Claremont, Safeway/76.

Get the medium size, $4.60, because then you can get 3 flavours. Yes, I know, $4.60 you can get a pint of very nice ice cream at Whole Foods.
My second time at Tara's: blueberry mint, strawberry balsamic, saffron
blueberry mint: I like blueberry, I like mint. Good.
strawberry balsamic: It's basically strawberry. A tiny hint of balsamic? I couldn't really tell.
saffron: I'm really liking it, actually. A very interesting flavour. Definitely try it.

I honestly didn't know what saffron is. Only other time I've heard it is Saffron City in Pokemon, (that purple psychic lady, if I recall correctly). Saffron is a spice made from some type of flower.
My first visit to Tara's I got saffron and something else.
Tara herself will probably be working the counter. She was there both times when I went. But today she seemed a bit pissed, because before me were three kids having trouble deciding on flavours and how to pay. But whatever, kids will be kids, that is, annoying.

EFF my last name.
It's definitely not at all close to horrible, but it's just annoying.
I don't like my school e-mail address,
I signed up for Southwest's Rapid Rewards using my legal last name, then I wanted to add my previous flights to the account, but only on one trip did I use my legal last name. Rawrrr.
Sometime when I go up to registration counters, the person working can't find me in the system because I told them the wrong last name. Then when I tell them my legal last name, or the other one which I said first, they look at me weird like I don't even know my own name. Grr.

My mom showed and told me to fill out the form to change my last name. What a crap (though not too large) packet of forms. It's a bit confusing, too. Ughh. Kind of intimidated by it and so it's just on my desk, over which I've put various things such as metal cds and lip balm.

My lawyer said that the process is a pain in the ass, such a hassle. =(
But maybe he'll feel particularly empathetic and help me with it?
The name-changing process also requires a court hearing. WTF blahh.
I'll probably owe him big time and really need to get hit by a car if he does help me change my last name. I just planned to have my last name changed before I get my license, or else after I get my license and change my last name, then I'll have to send out forms and shit to redo my license. I would already have to do that for my passport since I got my passport renewed last year.

K maybe music posts when I have more time to kill online when school starts again next Monday. 'Til then, ciao.

recession-proof industry?

No, the porn industry is not.

silverwing3/22/2009 11:06:22 AM
Since there is far less demand in society for men to have the opportunity to make such money dancing naked, there should be a government program created to provide men with grants who want to dance naked for women but can't get high-paying jobs doing it. It is only fair since we all want equality.
Fuck yeah. ROFLOLWTFEEZYlovely

On spring break! Got home Thursday evening.
Took meine Mutter out to Abendessen at MSF!
Then more food with grandparents the next day.
Yesterday I spent 3 hours in the darkroom. Still want to make more prints though, from film I took during Thanksgiving and winter break.
No time to really blog,
leisure reading: Haruki Murakami:: Blind Willow, Sleeping Women
news articles from last week I've saved in like 13 tabs in Firefox that I still haven't gotten to,
MILK mags I haven't opened yet.
getting more into indie-electro, just downloaded 40 tracks.
Will blog more when I get back to school, haha.

Stay cool.

the central limit theorem

I like it when teachers/professors try to be humorous, making an otherwise boring powerpoint/keynote lecture somewhat less boring.
and regression:

I am studying/studied so much, I better get an A in Poli30, or at least a B.
And pleeeease please pass Microecon. Midterm 1: D+, Midterm 2: C-, Final (50% of grade, I think) I hope to do better at least a C-. Passing grade is C- or better, correct?

BTW, Happy Saint Patrick's Day. This is such a completely forgettable holiday. I really would have been a caught-off guard with the green people had not a friend mentioned a week earlier to me that St. Paddy's Day would be near my date of departure.
