san diego critical mass: intro/people

critical mass. san diego by Samuel McLaughlin

First go round with the 7D with the nifty fifty in the pocket. Still working with LCD and hand held to get stabilization but it will come around. Very little color correction, just beautiful glass on the 7D.

I miss this, too.
one more month—at the most, hopefully— ‘til I can ride again and have big bicycling fun.

once you’re there and in the beautiful sea of bikes and faces, you’ll forget all the bad-mouthing on SD CM.

organism luchtalarm

The idea for Organism is inspired by the sound of the country's (The Netherlands) Luchtalarm which is tested every first Monday of the month at 12 O'clock. During the 1.5 minutes of alarm testing, we want to surprise the city with an action in the heart of The Hague's city centre.

above Kirkham

Kirkham St bike lanes — tribute

As the new Kirkham St bike lanes join the old Kirkham St bike lanes, elite US Navy fighter pilots do precision doughnuts in the intersection high above Ninth and Kirkham, an awesome display of adolescent petrowankage and lethal force. I just liked the futurisimo lines here...

Taivas Varjele!

Taivas varjele mitä sieltä tulee? sieltä tulee MAALI!
For heaven's sake, what is that? It's a GOAL!

Finnish Hockey Mafia feat. Antero Mertaranta - Taivas Varjele!

These dudes made a song from the amazing commentary by Antero, on the more or equally amazing goal by Mikael Granlund (<— watch this first!) in May during the IIHF.

It's not only genius, but danceable as well.

skate capital of the world

Spensor Hill in action at the Ed Benedict skatepark in Portland, Ore.

In Portland, skateboarding has been woven into parks and streets in the same manner as cycling or soccer. Skateboarding is illegal in downtowns across the country. Portland’s downtown is marked with “skate routes” featuring signs with a skateboarding stick figure. In most cities, skaters consider it a big victory when a skatepark is built. Portland is building a network of 19 skateparks scattered throughout the city. Skaters even have one of their own in City Hall: Tom Miller, chief of staff to Portland Mayor Sam Adams, rode into politics through skateboard advocacy and has continued pushing for skateparks from the inside.

Skateboarding Capital of the World
Decades of activism make Portland, Ore., heaven for the sport; follow the skate routes

wsj, 31.07.09.

Tom Miller, a skateboard advocate and the mayor’s chief of staff, in Portland.

I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon for a weeklong 'vacation' in Portland.

Bringing my skateboard with me, even though I'm a noob and can't do tricks / won't be able to enjoy these skateparks. But just so I can get around faster, and in the case that I can't find a bike to borrow or don't want to drop cash to rent one.
