I am one of those persons who do not like real screaming way-too-fast drums punk rock (such as AFI's earlier stuff) but like sum41, blink182, and the current AFI sound. A reviewer on amazon:
*If you like Sing The Sorrow and Decemberunderground you will most likely enjoy this album.
*This is Rock, not punk. (I don't mean that in a negative light, but from a musical perspective)
*If you want hard, fast, punch you in the face punk rock, you will probably be disappointed.

redesign the old Bay Bridge span?

One of the architectural renderings by David Dana for his design imagining the east span of the
Bay Bridge recycled for use as a community including farms, housing and a nine-story hotel.

So if the bridge is unstable now and costs too much to repair, what do they think will happen when they put housing on it? It will magically become stable?

dy/dt - lonely vocals 03 [22.01.2010]
55mins | 76mb//192kbps | 101mb//256kbps
full vocal trance mix

01. Way Out West ft. Jonathan Mendelsohn - Only Love (Jerome Isma-Ae Mix)
02. Adiva ft. Vicky Fee - How Does It Feel (Original Mix)
03. Cor Fijneman ft. Melissa Mathes - Disappear (Carlos Sun Juan Remix)
04. Zoo Brazil ft. Leah - You Can Have It All (George Acosta Remix)
05. Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren - Beggin' You (Armin van Buuren Remix)
06. Espen Gulbrandsen vs. DJ Julian Vincent ft. Maria Nayler - Perfect Sky (Max Graham Remix)
07. Jes - Love Song (Cosmic Gate Remix)
08. First State ft. Elliot Johns - Your Own Way (First State's Analog Reconstruction)

I messed up once, but then this was the first run; hadn't mixed any of these songs before, but I think the rest of the mix is alright, so yeah.
More mellow/slower vocal trance. Would go well with rainy/stormy weather, but the sun looks to be coming out right now. Just listen to it at night.

2 of my friends, Simply Cupcake and edium, are spinning at an underground rave in San Diego tonight. Check it out if you're in the area and not going to Voyeur (21+, Andy Moor and Victor Dinaire).

Feedback on my mix is appreciated! :)

An actual stormy week of winter weather in San Diego! =D
Except that I want to go running. Clearing up a bit right now, but still with light rain. Maybe a run around the block and then to the little indoor fitness room.

San Diego Restaurant Week

Pizza at Cucina Urbana
I want to go!!!
Someplace nice downtown like Cucina Urbana or Currant.
Sucks..this kind of city/urbanization system where everyone is dependent on motor vehicles.. can't get anywhere too easily without one. (I've been reading all day. Holy scheiß there's so much shit to read, for all my classes. Today I finally finished this super long reading–practically a whole book–about the beginnings of urbanization and cities and all that.)

Last quarter, I was pretty healthy and mostly prudent–didn't spend too much on food. A couple weeks I would have soup and bread from Whole Foods, another couple weeks salad, tortellini, more bread... This quarter I'm tired of heating up food in a pot. And especially after winter break, during which I ate out quite often. Now this quarter I just want to go eat out a few times a week, and try a bunch of different places. But..too much $$. I needz more moneyzz to maintain a healthy foodie diet. lolz. I went to the Cottage twice last week, that's a total of almost $40 (more than I spend on a single grocery trip). Gyahhz. Good food.. nom. I'm still maintaining a pretty healthy lifestyle/diet though. Running and yoga, salad and yogurt, bread and nutella and soy milk and fruit. and chocolate. :)

ASOBI SEKSU acoustic!

Went to see Asobi Seksu play an acoustic show at the Loft.
Really good. And they sound really different acoustic. At times, if it weren't for the vocals, I wouldn't have been able to recognize the song. (Check out their first album: self-titled, and their sophomore album: Citrus [2006], as well as their newer stuff! asobi seksu on myspace)
The opening band was Lady Danville, 3 guys from Danville, Ca, UCLA grads. Checked out their myspace page before going to the show, read that two of them met at a vocal/choir audition, so was not surprised that they had good singing voices. But their songs were about relationships, "I want you back"— not my type of music. But they were pretty good nonetheless. Here are a couple pics of asobi seksu. (I was in the front row! Yay for small venues/"intimate" shows and nice guys who when turning around and seeing someone short offer to trade places!)
front woman yuki chikudate. she signed her name in japanese on my ticket! :)

Sad news about Haiti today. But hey! New cool building in Dubai! Gotta go there sometime.
Add in some multiple megawatt lasers, and you've got a LIGHT SHOW.
And can't forget the booming EDM blasting out from the ground floors of the building.
WHATTA RAVE. Dance on that bridge.
Gotta wait til some cool dude who's into EDM in our generation gets really rich so he can transport us there and throw a sick party. Outdoor stage, plus multiple, multiple, multiple inside stages.

dy/dt - Let's Bounce 2010 (not live set)

Practically no one recorded their sets, myself included.
But..I did record one of my practice sets. =D
I had the input set a bit too high, so the bass is kinda "clipping" :[ , but sort of makes it sound "live".
At Bounce I actually had time for one more song, so I dropped Marco V's "When the Night Falls" after Kyau & Albert's "I Love You".

dy/dt - Let's Bounce 2010 (practice) set + 2

2. Above & Beyond - Anjunabeach (Nitrous Oxide Remix)
3. DT8 Project- Destination (Above & Beyond Remix)
4. Filo & Peri - Drops of Jupiter (Main Mix)
5. Ernesto vs Bastian - Dark Side of the Moon (Dogzilla Pure Filth Remix)
6. Dash Berlin ft. Emma Hewitt - Waiting (Sean Tyas Remix)
7. Tritonal - Kinetik (Air Up There Remix)
8. Kyau & Albert - I Love You (Cosmic Gate Remix)

10. Rank 1 - Symfo (Marcus Schössow & Robert Burian Remix)

the dream team

aka DVC's lighting team. main guy with expertise: Jordan Clarno

Let's Bounce 2010 Lighting

Ok, lighting not that bomb compared to *massives*, no way. But this is by the non-profit student org Deejays & Vinylphiles Club (DVC) @UC San Diego. Look at it that way, and it's incredibly BOMB. That we were able to throw such a bangin' event with no big name headliner and no promotion besides flyers and fb event was quite spectacular. HELLA ROCKED IT!!!

sunnuntai 10. tammikuuta 2010

DVC ftw!!!

We hella killed it at Let's Bounce!

Not even (or about) two hours in, fire alarm wtf?! Most likely some wacked-out dude pulled it. Everyone had to evac. Some people were confused, but then already wristbanded people were allowed to go to the outside stage, which became PACKED. Price Center Plaza looked amazing. Too bad the thought didn't strike my mind to go above the PC Theater (2nd floor) to take a hella good picture instead of a very mediocre pic from the water walkway which insuffiently captures the energy at that moment.
Then after the fire alarm finally got cleared and people were being allowed in again, the inside rooms got pretty filled up, also because a bunch of people outside ran off to the inside rooms, too. Overall, Bounce 2010 was a success. The crowd seemed pretty calm about the fire alarm and stayed in line. Didn't hear of anyone puking or undercovers. Or at least not yet. (Staff meeting tomorrow!) EVERYONE tore up great sets! (Even though I didn't catch everyone's set, I'm pretty sure of this.)

Strange crowd movement, though, between the inside rooms. First the smaller one (stage two//PURE) got packed while the larger one (stage three//ORIGINAL) was mostly empty. Then I think during Donnie's and Emily's sets it was packed in both. Sometime around 11 or 12 the smaller room thinned out. So when I went up on stage there weren't many people.. not what I expected.. but still fun, played my banging trance set. My friend Sanh (DJ Sanhic) helped me out. Very grateful! (and I do prefer to tag team for a first performance.) Because, turned out it was a day when I couldn't fucking beatmatch. (Yes this is a problem for DJing —you can't fucking be a dj if you can't even beatmatch!— sometimes I'll be able to mix/beatmatch a whole hour or two pretty well except for a couple songs, other times it's the opposite: only a couple songs perfectly beatmatched.) Maybe it's the loud monitors/speakers. Ehh. Just gotta practice more. He mixed in a couple tracks right after the first breakdown, so I ended up having time for one more song and dropped Marco V's "When the Night Falls". Was fun.

I just updated the "media" section of the DVC website, so check that out. Pro (DSLR) photos in a few days. So far two sets of amateur photos are up, including mine (pics are out of chronological order, though. :/ ).

LET'S BOUNCE 2010!

Today is the day. My debut performance. lol.
Holy scheiß I'm nervous.
Ok, well not nervous at the moment, because I just listened to some nice indie music. 135bpm trance is for later. zomg I better not fuck up. I hope my beatmatching gets closer to perfect. Sometimes I'm just off. Today better not be one of those times. Because super loud sound + messing up = BADDDDD.

I'm spinning a closing set! Yeeah trance!
Full timeslots here.
I AM dy/dt.

I am definitely a fan of Improv Everywhere.

No Pants Subway Ride 2010 is coming up this Sunday, January 10th!

Gosh, New York looks so big and fun.
I want to go to NYC and pretend to be a Brooklyn hipster and go to these organized, random, smile-inducing mass gatherings.
Check out all the other experiments by the agents at Improv Everywhere, such as this one.

24.Markus Schulz - Do You Dream (Uplifting Vocal Mix)

Really wish I could have gone!
Can totally feel the crowd's energy from the live recording.
Schulz has a quite a number of mash-ups and reconstructions that he hasn't released yet. I really like his Big Room Reconstruction of A&B's "No One on Earth". "Unprepared for Nothing at All" is a pretty cool mash-ups, but I still like each of the separate original tracks more. There's more energy in the "Unprepared" track and the "Nothing At All" vocals doesn't bring out that energy as the original "Unprepared" vocals. But bomb mix nonetheless! I've missed Markus Schulz twice now. Have to go see him play sometime.

Not sure if I want to continue blogging every day. It was cool for a while, to have all 30/31 entries in a month, but now I'm kinda tired of blogging every day. I'm too lazy to post full albums, photo-blogging is so much easier, ahah.
Should I continue blogging every day? Who even reads all my posts? I probably should stop doing this every day. Lots of reading to do this quarter. I dunno.

$2 million in mill valley

36 glen drive, mill valley, ca. $2.195 million

I really like places with lots of windows for natural sunlight.

Had only one class today, USP2: The Urban World System. (I added an urban studies and planning–USP minor.) Had to buy 4 textbooks for that class + a reader ($94). Total I spent at the campus bookstore today was $261.11 for those 4 USP books + The Politics of New Germany (for Poli120B) + International Political Economy (for Intl102). Yes, I like how all my classes relate to each other. Still need a macroecon textbook. I'll ask the professor tomorrow if there's a significant difference between the UCSD custom edition and the regular 4th edition. If not, $14 on amazon vs. $50 at bookstore. Whee-o~ textbook shopping!
